Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated on the 10th that Israel is prepared to negotiate a permanent ceasefire in Gaza during a 60-day truce period, but the precondition is that Gaza must be demilitarized.
In a video speech delivered in Washington, he said: "When the ceasefire begins, we will negotiate the permanent end to the war."
He pointed out that Israel's "basic condition" is that "Hamas must lay down its arms" and that it no longer possesses "governing or military capabilities."
He stated: "If this can be achieved through negotiations, that would be ideal. If it cannot be achieved within 60 days of negotiations, we will do it by other means, using force, with our brave army."
On the 9th, Hamas claimed to have agreed to release 10 hostages, but on the 10th, stated its opposition to provisions in the agreement that would include a large Israeli military presence in Gaza.
U.S. Middle East envoy Whitaker has proposed a 60-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of half of the remaining 20 hostages in Gaza.
