Two men were arrested by police after parachuting from the famous Paris landmark, the Eiffel Tower.
According to AFP, sources from the French police said that security personnel spotted two men climbing the 330-meter-high Eiffel Tower before dawn on the 10th. The pair were wearing hoods and carrying parachutes.
Security personnel immediately alerted the police and notified civil defense departments. Police tried to communicate with the climbers, who then indicated they were preparing to jump.
The two men jumped from the tower at around 6 a.m. local time and were arrested by police after landing. Sources said that police also detained another person who had approached the tower but did not participate in the climbing activity.
The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 for the Paris World's Fair and is currently owned by the Paris city government. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, drawing about 7 million visitors annually, of which about three-quarters are from abroad.
