Democratic Action Party Secretary-General Anthony Loke clarified that he has verified with the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and the government has not cancelled the subsidy for 14kg bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Recently, media reports have shown that many vendors are concerned and questioning whether the government has canceled the subsidy for 14kg bottled LPG.
Anthony Loke stated that currently, the price of a 14kg bottled LPG is maintained at RM26, which is the subsidized price; without the subsidy, its price could reach up to RM70.
"The government is still subsidizing the 14kg bottled LPG, especially for household use, and ordinary families can still purchase it at the subsidized price."
As for vendors or night market traders, he mentioned that as long as they use no more than three cylinders of LPG, they are still eligible for the subsidy.
He pointed out that recent enforcement actions are mainly targeting suppliers abusing the subsidy, especially those transferring subsidized LPG from small cylinders to large cylinders and selling them at non-subsidized prices for profit.
Moreover, Anthony Loke stated that businesses receiving notifications should understand that these are not fines or summons but reminders that if they use more than three LPG cylinders, they must apply for the relevant usage permit.
"I understand that there is still ambiguity in the execution of some policies, especially in more complex environments such as vendor centers. Thus, I have forwarded these issues to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and will raise them for further discussion at the Cabinet meeting next week."
"I want to emphasize once again that the subsidy has not been canceled. The government's goal is to prevent abuse and ensure that those who truly need it can continue to benefit. Vendors need not panic, as the policy details and implementation methods will continue to be optimized and coordinated."
