In response to the United States' decision to cancel the duty-free status for small parcels from Hong Kong and increase tariffs, Hongkong Post criticized the US for unreasonable bullying and announced that it would suspend accepting mail destined for the US that contains goods.

On the 16th, Hongkong Post issued a press release on its website, stating that the US is being unreasonable and is abusing tariffs. Hongkong Post will definitely not collect tariffs on behalf of others and will suspend accepting mail destined for the US that contains goods.

Hongkong Post pointed out that due to the longer shipping time of surface mail, it will suspend accepting surface mail containing goods from now on, and will suspend accepting airmail containing goods from April 27th. Other mail that only contains documents and does not contain goods will not be affected.

Hongkong Post reminded Hong Kong residents sending mail to the US to be prepared for hefty and unreasonable fees.

On April 2nd, US President Trump signed an executive order announcing the termination of duty-free treatment for small parcels from China and Hong Kong starting May 2nd. The White House announced on its website on the 8th that it would increase the tariffs on small parcels from China and Hong Kong from the original 30% to 90%, citing China’s retaliatory tariffs as the reason.
