An avalanche struck the base camp of Mt. Yalung Ri in eastern-central Nepal on the 3rd, resulting in at least 5 foreign climbers and 2 Nepali guides losing their lives.
Mahato, the chief of Dolakha District Police, said that a climbing team comprising 5 foreign climbers and 10 Nepali guides encountered the avalanche at the mountain's base camp in the district that day.
He stated that rescuers have found 7 bodies, including 5 climbers from the United States, Italy, and Canada, as well as 2 Nepali guides. Additionally, 4 people were injured and 4 remain missing.
As of October 31, Nepal had approved 1,450 climbers to scale 59 peaks in the country during this year’s autumn climbing season, which lasts from September to November.
