(Bandar Seri Begawan, 22nd) Brunei Politeknik Institute (PB) and China Lanzhou Petrochemical Vocational & Technical University (LPUVT) signed a memorandum of understanding, officially establishing a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening academic cooperation, exchange programs, and research in the fields of petrochemical engineering and vocational education.
The signing ceremony was held at the PB School of Petrochemical Engineering located in the Lumut campus in Belait District.
Acting Director of Politeknik Institute, Pengiran Saif Baharin, signed on behalf of the institute, accompanied by Acting Principal Hajah Ama.
LPUVT was represented by Vice President Liu Xingqin and Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, Liu Yafang. Chen Peng, Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of LPUVT, Alan Goh, Director of Human Resources of Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, as well as several heads of PB's departments and faculties attended the signing ceremony.
Pengiran Saif Baharin, Acting Director of Politeknik Institute, welcomed the memorandum of understanding in his speech, considering it a milestone event that will deepen the cooperation between the two institutions in the fields of education, training, and research, especially in the petrochemical sector.
He stated that this collaboration marks an important step toward building a strong partnership between the two institutions in the areas of research, education, and training programs.
The memorandum outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation, including student and staff exchange programs, implementation of "Chinese Language + Vocational Skills" programs, joint academic and research activities, publications, and information sharing. The memorandum also paves the way for future projects in areas of mutual interest.
To date, a total of 68 students from PB Institute have completed industry-based learning (IBL) internships during their fifth semester at Lanzhou Petrochemical University (LPUVT). The Acting Director expressed satisfaction with these students' exposure to advanced petrochemical technologies at LPUVT and Hengyi Industries.
He mentioned that these IBLs are not just abstract courses in the classroom, but real industrial experiences reflecting the global energy and chemical landscape.
This collaboration aims to promote knowledge exchange and capacity building, benefiting students, educators, and industry stakeholders.
He said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding is not merely a formal agreement, but a commitment to the growth, development, and enrichment of our academic and professional community.
After the signing ceremony, the visiting LPUVT delegation toured PB Institute's classrooms and studios, and interacted with students who had previously studied at LPUVT.
