A Proton Hero car reportedly failed to overtake and collided head-on with a Malaysian Armed Forces military truck, resulting in one soldier’s death at the scene and four others injured.

This traffic accident occurred on Thursday (11th) at 6:35pm in Bukit Belah, Machang, Kelantan. The soldier killed in the accident was Sergeant Fahmi Darus, aged 39, who was attached to the Hero Village military camp in Kok Lanas. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining three soldiers in the truck were injured.

Machang District Police Chief Ahmad Shafieki stated that preliminary investigations showed the deceased was in the front passenger seat of the military truck, which also carried a driver and two other passengers. At the time of the incident, the truck was heading from Tanah Merah back to the military camp.

"As the truck arrived at the scene, a Proton Hero car driven by a man was traveling from Kota Bharu towards Kuala Krai and was believed to be overtaking another vehicle at that moment."

"The sedan entered the oncoming lane, catching the military truck driver off guard and unable to evade in time, resulting in a head-on collision."

The driver of the Proton Hero was also injured in the accident and has been sent to the hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the accident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
