(Miri, 12th) To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Miri Longchuan Clan Association held the "Longchuan Hakka Culture and Cuisine Lecture" this morning at Pei Min Secondary School Auditorium, delving into the history and development of the migration of Longchuan Hakka people from China to Southeast Asia, their settlement in Miri, and the establishment of the Longchuan Clan Association. The atmosphere was lively, and participants responded enthusiastically.
The Secretary and Organizing Chairperson of the Miri Longchuan Clan Association, Mr. Huang Juheng, pointed out in his opening speech that Longchuan is one of the important birthplaces of Hakka culture. Over hundreds of years, Hakka people have traveled great distances across mountains and rivers to all corners of the world. No matter where they are, they always uphold the spirit of diligence and thrift, unity and mutual help, respect for teachers, and the transmission of tradition.
He said that this lecture is not just about food, but also an inheritance of culture and a soulful exchange.
“We hope that through this event, more young people will understand the stories behind Hakka cuisine. That fragrant plate of braised pork with preserved vegetables, that steaming bowl of Lei Cha, and the saying ‘Hakka food is about reunion and emotion’—all are not just the taste of home, but the emotional connection of a thousand-year-old culture.”
美里龙川同乡会秘书兼筹备会主席黄居恒致词。
Huang Juheng also expressed hope that this event would allow friends from different regions to better understand the unique charm of Longchuan Hakka, starting from the taste buds, moving into the culture, and from the culture moving into the soul.
He also thanked the organizing committee for their hard work, all sponsors, and supporting units, wishing the event a complete success. He hoped that everyone could not only enjoy the fragrance of Hakka cuisine, but also experience the profound heritage of Hakka culture.
