(Seoul, 14th) North Korean state media reported on the 14th that Kim Yo-jong, sister of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, warned that the joint military exercises conducted by the United States, South Korea, and Japan would bring “negative consequences” upon themselves.
South Korea, Japan, and the United States will hold their annual defensive exercise, “Freedom Edge,” starting from September 15, aiming to improve their operational capabilities in air, sea, and cyberspace to counter North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats.
Kim Yo-jong stated that the US and South Korea’s “Nuclear Deterrence and Nuclear Operations Guidelines on the Korean Peninsula” is a dangerous “concept.” She said that North Korea will regard this as an undisguised display of an anti-North Korea stance and a “continuation” of antagonistic policies. She emphasized that by taking the risk of flexing their muscles around North Korea, the US, South Korea, and Japan will inevitably bring negative results upon themselves.
Korean media reported that South Korea and the US are also planning to conduct a tabletop exercise next week called “Iron Hammer” to integrate the two countries’ conventional and nuclear operational capabilities to counter North Korean threats.
Pak Jong-chon, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, stated that the reckless military actions of the US, South Korea, and Japan are a serious challenge to North Korea’s national security interests and are the main danger undermining regional stability and intensifying military tensions. He stressed that if hostile forces continue to flex their muscles, North Korea will take even more evident and high-intensity countermeasures in response.
