(Madrid, 14th) – An explosion occurred at a bar in the Spanish capital Madrid on the 14th, injuring at least 25 people, 5 of whom are in serious condition. Authorities have preliminarily determined it to be a gas explosion.
The explosion happened at 1pm local time, with the sound reverberating through the neighborhood. After the incident, ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars rushed to the scene. Rescue dogs and drones were deployed for the search and rescue efforts, and to clear debris.
Authorities have ruled out the possibility of more people being trapped under the rubble.
An eyewitness said that before the explosion, a strong smell of gas could be detected, and the bar was crowded at the time of the incident. After the explosion, “everyone nearby did their utmost to help those inside.”
The force of the explosion also affected nearby buildings, damaging the structure of a total of nine residences. Due to the damage, residents were forced to evacuate temporarily and may be “unable to return home.”
One member of the public said, “We felt the explosion while we were at home and immediately ran outside. The scene was chaotic, and people were trying to move their cars off the street.”
The fire department stated that the incident is suspected to be related to a gas explosion, but it is currently not possible to specify the type of gas, the cause of the explosion, or the precise location where it occurred. The building housing the bar is now in an “unstable condition,” with the entrance area particularly hard hit, making the structure completely inaccessible.
