(Miri, 29th) In order to promote youth sports development and foster parent-child relationships, Riam Road Secondary School’s basketball team will join hands with MYY Community Mall to co-organize the "2025 Riam-MYY Basketball Showdown & Parent-Child Doubles" on December 20-21, 2025.
This grand event will take place at MYY Community Mall in Lutong, welcoming basketball enthusiasts aged 21 or below and their parents from both within and outside the school to enthusiastically sign up and participate, creating a vibrant and heartwarming educational and community basketball festival.
The event is strongly supported and sponsored by Mr. Guo Yi En from MYY Community Mall, who has generously provided the competition venue free of charge and also sponsored RM1,000 to the Riam basketball team as activity and team funds.
Ms. Vincy Hou Wenshi, representing MYY Community Mall, shared that the mall has always actively supported local education and youth activities, hoping that by opening up its venue and resources, it can help create a more socially meaningful platform for the community.
Principal Jiang Pei Juan of Riam Road Secondary School expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Guo Yi En and Ms. Vincy Hou for their tremendous support, giving Riam’s players a valuable opportunity to step out of the campus and collaborate with community organizations.
“Allowing students to step outside the campus and hold events in the commercial area not only gives them a more open platform to showcase themselves and interact with the public, but also allows them to gain different learning experiences. Without the support from MYY Community Mall and Mr. Guo Yi En, Riam students would not have had this chance for industry-academia collaboration.”
She continued, “The 2025 Riam-MYY Basketball Showdown & Parent-Child Doubles is more than just a sporting event; it is also an educational practice, a community connection, and a spectacular occasion for the youthful passion and familial warmth to shine together.”
This event is divided into two major categories: the "1 on 1 Basketball Showdown" and the "Parent-Child Doubles".
Basketball Showdown categories include:
- Boys U21 and below
- Boys U18 and below
- Boys U15 and below
- Boys U12 and below
- Girls U21 and below
- Girls U16 and below
Parent-Child Doubles categories include:
- Father & Son
- Mother & Son
- Father & Daughter
- Mother & Daughter
If there are fewer than 5 teams in any Parent-Child Doubles category, the organizer may merge categories as appropriate. Children participating in the Parent-Child Doubles must be aged 21 or below. Registration Fees: 1 on 1 Basketball Showdown: RM10 per Riam student, RM20 per non-Riam student; Parent-Child Doubles: RM30 per Riam student team, RM40 per non-Riam student team.
There will be cash prizes, trophies, and gifts. The event date is December 20-21, 2025 (subject to the number of registered teams), with the venue at Lutong MYY Community Mall.
