(Kuching, 29th) Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus will build a new campus focused on scientific research, after the Sarawak government has allocated 10 acres of land for the development.
The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, announced this on Tuesday (October 28) at the university's 25th anniversary dinner, stating that the initiative aims to strengthen research capabilities and cultivate highly skilled talent to drive future industries in Sarawak.
He said: “This new campus will support Sarawak’s strategic growth in areas such as green energy, semiconductors, petrochemicals, and material sciences. The state government is committed to equipping the facility with advanced technologies so that Sarawak can fully utilize its resources through innovation and the development of local expertise.”
The dinner also recognized outstanding members of the Swinburne campus community. Chan Tyng Tyng received the ‘Distinguished Alumni Award’, while Christopher Tan Aik Wei was awarded the ‘Outstanding Young Alumni Award’.
In addition, the university presented the ‘Long Service Award’ to academic and administrative staff members who have served long-term and contributed quietly, in recognition of their professionalism and dedication.
