(Seria, 29th) The Charity Society of Brunei Jidaoge hosted the final class of its “Cultural School” for the 2025 academic year. After a five-month learning journey, students immersed themselves in classical and modern texts, appreciating the beauty of poetry. The closing chapter concluded successfully with poetry recitations and heartfelt gratitude.
This class opened with “Explaining Chinese Characters,” focusing on the radical ‘疒’ and related words such as “疼 (pain), 痛 (ache), 痒 (itch), 痴 (foolishness),” delving into the cultural implications within Chinese characters related to the body and emotions. In the subsequent “Classics Reading” session, students explored Chapter Four of the Tao Te Ching, guided by the instructor to understand the coexistence of emptiness and fullness in the “Dao,” its inclusive and humble philosophy, and reflected on its resonance with modern humanistic spirit.
The “Classics Selection” and achievements showcase segment took the classroom atmosphere to a gentle and emotional climax. Shen Zongxiang detailed the background of Li Qingzhao’s “A Twig of Plum Blossom,” analyzing its emotional layers and historical impact. Li Yisong explained Wang Changling’s “Out of the Fortress” and Wang Wei’s “Seeing Yuan’er Off to Anxi,” and together with classmates recited the verses against the backdrop of cursive script, conveying the desolation of the frontier and the deep sentiment of farewell.
Chen Yingying gave a heartfelt recitation of Xu Zhimo’s “Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again,” her melodic words stirring ripples in the audience; Huang Yuxiang then recited Li Shutong’s “Farewell” accompanied by a calligraphy piece, instantly prompting everyone to join in singing and reciting, lifting the class atmosphere to its peak.
Student representative Pan Weifang shared in her reflection: “The instructor not only imparts knowledge, but also spirit; using a class, a sentence, a silhouette to embody the educational sentiment of ‘writing as a vehicle for conveying Dao.’” She also thanked the organizers for providing an in-depth learning platform, enabling everyone to touch the benevolence of the Analects, the grandeur of Mencius, the grace of Tang poetry, and the gentleness of Song lyrics.
The school also awarded the “Perfect Attendance Award” to Li Yisong, who attended every session over five months, recognizing his dedicated commitment to learning.
The course concluded with a warm tea gathering. On behalf of Legislator Zhuang Jingyi, who was on an official visit, Xinjiang specialty camel milk cheese candies were gifted. Classmates Ou Tianfa and Xing Xiuzhu also thoughtfully provided exquisite food and fruit, putting a perfect poetic and grateful end to this “Cultural School.”
