Taiwanese singer Eric Chou was recently caught up in a cross-border fraud case. His management company, SkyHigh Entertainment, has confirmed that a Korean female fan was deceived by a scam group impersonating Eric Chou, losing NT$2,058,884 (approximately S$84,000) over five years.
SkyHigh Entertainment told Taiwanese media on Thursday that the company had recently received multiple requests for help, among which one Korean female fan claimed that she had been in frequent contact online with someone who claimed to be Eric Chou since 2021.
During this period, the other party repeatedly borrowed money under the pretense of cash flow needs. The fan made several transfers, with the total amount reaching NT$2,058,884.
As the person continuously failed to fulfill promises to repay, she began contacting Eric Chou’s team repeatedly at the start of 2026, hoping to seek justice.
The female fan stated that she possessed numerous chat logs and call evidence, and firmly believed the other party was Eric Chou himself, even providing multiple screenshots as proof.
However, after investigation, the management company confirmed that this matter was entirely unrelated to Eric Chou and was a case of criminals impersonating a celebrity to commit cross-border romance and financial fraud.
The company immediately informed the fan of the situation and advised her to report the case to local authorities as soon as possible.
Notably, the evidence provided by the victim even included call records, and it is possible that they once had video calls.
In light of this, the management company reminded that with the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, both voice and video can be closely simulated. Even seeing a familiar face or hearing a familiar voice through video is not enough to confirm identity.
SkyHigh Entertainment emphasized that in recent years, there have been frequent cases worldwide of scammers impersonating celebrities or influencers using AI technology. These fraudsters often exploit the trust and admiration of fans to induce money transfers or investments.
The company called on fans to remain vigilant: Whenever requests involve borrowing money, investments, remittances, or purchasing on behalf, always verify through multiple channels and do not easily trust unknown social media accounts to avoid losses.
Currently, Eric Chou is busy with his ‘Odyssey·Stars Journey·Sky’ world concert tour. He will perform in Chongqing on July 5, with more tour dates to be announced in succession.
