(Bandar Seri Begawan, 6th) A local man admitted to attacking his female friend's boyfriend with a machete but denied the earlier charge of causing bodily harm to the woman.

The 28-year-old defendant, Rawan, admitted that since May 13 this year, he had intentionally attacked another person using a weapon with lethal potential.

According to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's statement, on that day, the defendant went to the woman's residence at Kampong Tutong Kerian, had a heated argument with her, then went to his car to retrieve a machete and returned indoors.

He then broke into the bedroom, where he saw the woman's 33-year-old boyfriend, and suddenly struck multiple times with the machete at the right side of his head. The woman struggled hard to stop him and successfully pulled him away, after which the defendant angrily cursed at the woman before fleeing the scene with the machete.

The victim suffered a scalp laceration with a wound length of 6 cm and was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, the defendant confessed to the police that he had intended to confront the woman about their relationship and admitted to attacking her boyfriend during the altercation.

However, regarding another charge, accusing him of pushing the woman down on February 14, causing injuries after his romantic advances were rejected, the defendant denied this. The prosecution claims this incident resulted in swelling and abrasions on the woman's right arm, forearm, and back.

The court has decided to continue hearing the first charge (the February assault case), and the sentencing for the machete attack will be carried out after the hearing concludes.

The case is adjourned for trial, with a new court date expected to be set in two weeks.
