Due to the impact of Typhoon 'Bolaven', all classes were suspended across Sanya City, Hainan Island on Sunday, and the airport suspended flight takeoffs and landings for 12 hours.
The China Meteorological Administration continued to issue a yellow alert for typhoon and heavy rainfall for Typhoon Bolaven, the 20th typhoon of the year, at 6 a.m. Sunday (September 28). Bolaven is expected to make landfall on the central to northern coast of Vietnam between late Sunday night and Monday (29th) morning as a typhoon (Category 12 to 13).
In the next three days, Hainan Island, western Guangdong, southern and western Guangxi, eastern and southern Yunnan and other areas will experience strong winds and heavy rains. Meteorological authorities advise to take precautions against secondary disasters; the western regions of China will also experience heavy rainfall, and attention should be paid to prevent flash floods, geological disasters, and urban waterlogging, among other hazards.
According to CLS reports, in response to Bolaven’s impact, Sanya Phoenix International Airport suspended flight takeoffs and landings from 9 a.m. Sunday, and operations are expected to resume at 9 p.m. that evening.
In addition, Sanya Municipal Education Bureau issued a notice on Saturday (27th) stating that all primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and off-campus training institutions would suspend classes on Sunday; the time for resumption of classes will be notified separately.
Due to the adjustment of the holiday schedule for China's 'National Day' and Mid-Autumn Festival, many places held regular classes and work on Sunday.
