(Kuching, 22nd) Over 90 scouts from Malaysia and Indonesia gathered at the Sarawak State Library to participate in the annual Knowledge Camp.
This year's Knowledge Camp was held from June 21 to 22 at the Sarawak State Library complex, attracting members of Malaysia's 25th Putrajaya Scout Troop as well as the Pramuka Scout Troop from Sintang, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia.
The two-day event included a variety of knowledge-based, creative, and physical activities, aimed at fostering teamwork, cultural identity, and the mastery of effective learning methods.
Sarawak State Library Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Sarina Jawawi, stated that the Knowledge Camp reflected the multifaceted role of the library as a center for knowledge development, and not just a place for borrowing books.
"The state library should not be viewed merely as a traditional library—a place just for borrowing books. In today's society, it is a hub for knowledge development and a center for intellectual exchange," she said during the cultural exchange night held at the library auditorium on Saturday.
Indonesian scout team leader, Ms. Siti Muslika, expressed her gratitude for being able to participate in the event.
"Such camps play an important role in cultivating in the younger generation a love for knowledge. Although digital reading is convenient, compared to learning through books in a library environment, its content is often more easily forgotten," she said.
The camp hosted 30 scouts from Putrajaya and 30 scout members from Sintang, Indonesia, along with their leaders, with a total of 42 participants from Indonesia and about 50 from Sarawak.
The event featured a wide range of activities, including camping, campfire gatherings, educational workshops, games, as well as training on the identification and use of reliable research resources. It provided a meaningful platform for participants, promoted cross-national friendship and a shared love of knowledge, all in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere.
