SMK St Teresa crowned state-level history and patriotism champ

KUCHING,22 June : SMK St Teresa has emerged victorious in the Sarawak State-Level History and Patriotism Quiz 2025, an annual competition organised by the Sarawak Branch of the Malaysian Historical Society (PSMCS).

The event was hosted and co-organised by Kuching Science Secondary School.

This prestigious competition, aimed at cultivating a deeper appreciation for history and patriotism among students, brought together participants from 12 secondary schools across Sarawak.

The students showcased their extensive knowledge of Malaysian history and their passion for the nation throughout the event.

SMK St Teresa clinched the championship title, while SMK Matang Hilir secured second place.

SMK Sains Kuching Utara came in third, with a consolation prize awarded to Sekolah Menengah Sains Kuching.

A highlight of the competition was the individual recognition of Jeanna Tiong Yu Hang from SMK St Teresa, who was named Best Participant of the History and Patriotism Quiz 2025 for her outstanding knowledge, eloquence and composure.

The official closing ceremony was officiated by chairman of PSMCS, Prof. Datuk Dr Neilson Ilan Mersat, who was accompanied by principal of SM Sains Kuching, Othman Ibrahim.

In his address, Neilson underscored the importance of youth understanding the nation’s historical roots as a foundation for identity and patriotism.

As state champions, SMK St Teresa will go on to represent Sarawak at the national-level competition, set to take place in Peninsular Malaysia in the near future.

The History and Patriotism Quiz not only challenges participants intellectually but also serves as a meaningful platform to nurture a sense of nationhood and a lasting appreciation for Malaysia’s rich historical heritage.
