On the 4th, the Hong Kong Airport District Police received a report regarding a flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong, in which a passenger discovered that their personal belongings, placed in the overhead storage compartment, had gone missing and were suspected to have been stolen. Airport district officers arrived at the scene upon receiving the report and, after a preliminary investigation, arrested a 45-year-old male Chinese mainland passport holder on suspicion of theft.

Investigations revealed that the arrested man was suspected of stealing euros in cash, worth about HKD 7,000 (approximately MYR 3,700), from the passenger’s bag onboard the aircraft. Subsequently, officers found suspected drugs on the arrested individual, believed to fall under Part 1 poisons of the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, reportedly suspected to be sexual enhancement drugs. The case has since been handed over to Team 7 of the Airport District Criminal Investigation Team.

Police stress that theft is a serious crime and, once convicted, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment. The public is cautioned not to break the law. Police urge passengers to remain vigilant at all times in the cabin, lock and properly secure their carry-on luggage, be especially careful when leaving their seats, and keep cash and valuables on their person or entrusted to a companion. Before leaving the cabin, travelers should carefully check their personal belongings.
