According to insiders, the Trump administration is considering significantly reducing the high tariffs imposed on Chinese imports, with reductions potentially exceeding 50% in some cases, to ease tensions with China.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the 23rd that a White House official said that the tariffs on Chinese imports could be reduced to approximately 50% to 65% of the previous levels.

Related insiders pointed out that President Trump has not yet made a final decision, negotiations are still ongoing, and several options are available.

The report stated that some insiders also claimed that the Trump administration is considering a tiered approach, similar to the proposal made by the House Committee on China Affairs at the end of last year: imposing a 35% tariff on goods that the U.S. does not consider a threat to national security and at least a 100% tariff on goods deemed to have strategic significance to U.S. interests. The bill proposes to implement these tariffs in phases over five years.
