Turkey 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Injures at Least 151 People

An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey, on the 23rd, injuring at least 151 people.

The earthquake struck at 12:49 PM local time (5:49 PM Malaysia time), with its epicenter near Turkey's largest city, Istanbul, where the tremors were strongly felt.

Turkey's Interior Minister Yerlikaya stated after the earthquake that there were no reports of significant damage or serious injuries.

Istanbul Mayor Gul confirmed that hospitals are treating "151 people who were injured after jumping or attempting to jump from heights in panic."

He said that the injuries were not life-threatening.

In addition, Turkish President Erdogan pointed out that all state agencies, especially the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency and the Ministry of Health, are on alert.

As of 5:55 PM local time, 127 aftershocks have occurred, with the largest one being a magnitude of 5.9.
