(Bandar Seri Begawan, 31st) The Public Works Department has informed the public of the latest progress regarding the emergency repair works on the main water distribution pipe following the landslide incident at Kampong Batang Mitus on January 29.
The authorities stated that as an immediate response, an emergency response center has been activated, in collaboration with multiple departments under the Ministry of Development and relevant agencies, to deliver temporary water sources to affected areas via water tankers, with special attention to water collection points, blue water tanks, and key facilities such as hospitals, clinics, mosques, and other religious places.
The latest progress shows that out of 16 main water pipes, repairs for 8 have already been completed. The overall repair works are expected to be finished by February 1, although this is still subject to weather conditions.
However, the water supply in affected areas will only be gradually restored after the water tanks have been refilled. As most water tanks are currently at low levels, the entire replenishment process is expected to take about one day. Therefore, full restoration of water supply is anticipated by February 2.
Currently, the repair works on the water pipes are still actively ongoing. The public may also collect water from various temporary supply points, including blue water tanks set up in different locations. The relevant sites can be checked through the JKRBRUNEI Instagram account, or at other alternative locations such as the Lambak Industrial Area, Salambigar Industrial Area, Lugu National Housing Scheme Phase 5 and 6, Kampong Serdang Mosque, and Kampong Sengkurong Mosque.
The Public Works Department expresses sincere gratitude for the public’s understanding and cooperation, and states that it will do its utmost to expedite the repair works so as to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
