(Kuching, 21st) Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin highly praised the international volunteer organization “Save the Earth From A to Z” (ASEZ) for its commitment and efforts in environmental protection and youth-led volunteer services.
He said that the responsibility to protect the earth transcends borders, and whether Korean, Malaysian, or people from other countries, we all need to share the responsibility, as climate change affects all nations and societies.
Lee Kim Shin made these remarks during a courtesy visit from a six-member ASEZ delegation at his office in Bangunan Baitulmakmur on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Lee Kim Shin also shared the latest developments in Sarawak’s efforts to tackle climate change through sustainable and low-carbon transportation initiatives. He highlighted the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), which will use a hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, and the deployment of 56 hydrogen-powered feeder buses in the first phase, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner urban mobility.
He said that the Ministry of Transport continues to encourage the public to use public transportation more, citing the free “Miri Smart Bus” service as a positive example.
“Since its launch, more and more residents have chosen to take the bus, which not only helps ease traffic congestion but also contributes to environmental sustainability,” he said.
Lee Kim Shin also pointed out that schools play a role in promoting sustainable travel habits, with some teachers leading students to take public buses from a young age to cultivate environmental awareness.

Both parties also exchanged views on Sarawak’s sustainable public transport planning. Lee Kim Shin listened to feedback and proposals from university student volunteers, and reiterated the importance of incorporating youth perspectives when formulating future transport policies.
ASEZ is active in global initiatives related to environmental protection and human welfare, with volunteers from 175 countries. One of its main global initiatives is “Zero Plastic 2040,” which aligns with the international community’s goal to eliminate plastic pollution by 2040.
