On the 9th, Korea's 'National Airport Workers' Union Federation' announced that they will launch a strike starting from the 19th of this month, lasting through the Chuseok holiday period, which may severely impact flight operations.
The National Airport Workers' Union Federation, composed of workers from 15 Korean airports including Incheon International Airport and Gimpo Airport, held a press conference in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office to announce the strike plan.
Most of the union members belong to airport subsidiaries and are responsible for runway and terminal maintenance, fire fighting, and electrical equipment management.
The union is demanding that airlines supplement necessary manpower, change the ‘three shifts, two rotations’ system to a ‘four shifts, two rotations’ system, and improve the treatment of subsidiary workers.
The union warns that over 60% of workers are expected to participate in this strike, which is likely to affect flight operations and lead to flight delays or cancellations.
