Lawrence Wong Visits Two Hospitals in Brunei to Strengthen Singapore-Brunei Medical Cooperation and Exchange

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) and Gleneagles JPMC (GJPMC) were honored to welcome Singapore Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong to JPMC and GJPMC.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was warmly received by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence Pehin Halbi, Minister of Health and JPMC Executive Director Dato Isham, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister of Finance and Economy, and Chairman of Gleneagles JPMC Board Dato Liu Kwong Ming.
Accompanying Prime Minister Wong was a Singaporean delegation including Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for Communications and Information and Minister of State for Education Low Yen Ling, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Brunei Jean Tan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Culture, Community and Youth Rahayu Mahzam, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and National Development Baey Yam Keng.
Accompanying Brunei cabinet ministers included Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Ahmaddin, Minister of Development Dato Juanda, and Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Haji Shamhari.
The purpose of the visit was to explore first-hand the medical care and treatment facilities, while learning about the range of medical and specialist services provided by JPMC as well as its cardiac care.
Prime Minister Wong and his delegation listened to presentations about the Jerudong Park Medical Centre, Gleneagles JPMC, and Brunei's pioneering citizen-centric health transformation initiatives.
Prime Minister Wong then toured JPMC’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Brunei Neuroscience Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre (BNSRC) and The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), with particular focus on the robotic therapy room and the nuclear medicine department.
The visit continued at Gleneagles JPMC Hospital, where he viewed the hospital’s advanced cardiovascular laboratory equipped with the latest dual-plane imaging technology, and engaged with doctors and staff.
This courtesy visit highlighted the importance of sharing best practices in specialized medical services, helping to address common public health challenges and promoting regional medical innovation.
The visit also provided a valuable platform to strengthen the existing ties between Brunei and Singapore in the healthcare sector.
