(United States, 30th) US President Trump has warned that Venezuelan airspace should be considered "completely closed," to which Venezuela has issued a strong condemnation, directly calling it a "colonialist threat."
Reuters reported that on Saturday (November 29), the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning Trump's warning about closing Venezuelan airspace. "Venezuela condemns the colonialist threat attempting to violate the sovereignty of its airspace. This is yet another brazen, illegal, and utterly senseless act of aggression against the Venezuelan people."
Earlier on Saturday, Trump posted on social media: "All airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers should regard the airspace over and around Venezuela as completely closed."
As tensions rise between the US and Venezuela, the US Federal Aviation Administration issued a warning last week stating that flights to and from Venezuela would face risks, and many airlines have canceled flights to Venezuela as a result.
The Trump administration is currently increasing pressure on Venezuela, deploying large-scale military forces in the Caribbean region, including the world's largest aircraft carrier.
The New York Times reported on Friday (28th), citing several informed sources, that Trump had a phone call with Venezuelan President Maduro last week, during which the possibility of a meeting was discussed, but no arrangements have been made yet.
