(Seria, June 13) Chung Hwa Middle School Kuala Belait successfully held its first “Yue Cheng · Xin Chuan” Chinese Orchestra Experience Camp at the kindergarten hall in early September, attracting 40 enthusiastic participants from primary and secondary students, teachers, and parents. The event was filled with a warm and lively atmosphere.
The organizers specially invited Mr. Tan Wan Xiang, a seasoned Chinese orchestra instructor from Miri, to present a unique orchestral tour for students, teachers, and parents. Mr. Tan introduced a variety of traditional Chinese musical instruments, including the dizi, liuqin, pipa, zhongruan, yangqin, erhu, cello, and percussion, in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.
During the hands-on session, students explored and played different instruments with curiosity and excitement, experiencing the unique charm of Chinese music firsthand. Mr. Tan and his team also gave a demonstration performance—elegant melodies lingered in the air, immersing the audience and leaving them both moved and delighted.
Principal Zhang Guijuan stated that through this event, students not only learned about the beauty of Chinese orchestral music but also developed greater interest and passion for Chinese culture. The school plans to establish a Chinese orchestra club soon, with weekly classes every Thursday afternoon, gradually forming a school orchestra. The aim is to provide a systematic learning platform for students, ensuring the inheritance of traditional arts and allowing vibrant Chinese music to continue flourishing on campus.
