(Bandar Seri Begawan, 12th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, in granting the request of the Sultan Foundation to hold the Eid al-Fitr celebration at the International Conference Center in Berakas today, stated that while modernization and globalization are advancing rapidly, it is essential to concurrently protect traditional values and social customs.
His Majesty the Sultan emphasized that although the current lifestyle continues to influence the ways and attitudes of people, the nation must steadfastly uphold long-standing social traditions passed down through generations.
“These traditions must never disappear with modern trends,” His Majesty stated, adding that values such as mutual respect, friendship, tolerance, and cooperation must be passed down and must never be surpassed.
His Majesty the Sultan acknowledged the impact of globalization on socio-economic development and stressed that leaders at all levels must take active and effective measures to keep pace with the times.
His Majesty said: “Our approach must be practical and suitable for current trends,” expressing his hope to expand these efforts through organized and impactful plans to help achieve the goals of the Brunei Vision 2035.
His Majesty also thanked Allah for His full blessings, allowing Muslims in the country to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with joy and gratitude.
His Majesty reminded that the celebrations should adhere to Islamic teachings, using the opportunity to strengthen unity and the mutual observance of (silaturrahim), starting from family, neighbors, and friends, and extending to the broader community.
“This spirit of unity is crucial for fostering mutual respect and cooperation among the populace.”
His Majesty adhered to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, sharing how the Prophet walked to the mosque to attend the Eid al-Fitr prayers and returned by a different route - a gesture that allowed him to meet more people and strengthen community ties.
His Majesty also welcomed the theme of this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebration, “Community Unity, Achieving National Vision”, hosted by the Sultan Foundation, and noted that unity plays a crucial role in ensuring the nation's peace, harmony, and successful development.
His Majesty further thanked community groups for participating in the event and acknowledged their contributions to the progress of the nation and society.
“He deeply appreciates their efforts and steps toward empowering the community.”
This year’s celebration also featured a special exhibition with 20 institutions from government, governmental and non-governmental sectors showcasing. The exhibition highlighted initiatives and projects supporting social cohesion and national development through community outreach, social enterprises, education, counselling, and technological innovation. Together, they exemplify mutual benefits among various sectors in achieving national vision.
The event also aimed to inspire participants to continue making meaningful contributions to society.
