Thai Cabinet Reshuffle Finalized; Bhumjaithai Party to Propose No-Confidence Motion Against Prime Minister

The Thai cabinet reshuffle has been finalized, and the new cabinet list is currently under review; once the review is complete, it will be submitted to the King for royal endorsement.

After presiding over a cabinet meeting on the 24th, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn told reporters that the leaders of all parties in the ruling coalition had submitted their ministerial nominees. “Some names have already been sent for verification, and the list is now complete.”

She denied reports that United Thai Nation Party leader Pirapan had asked her to resign. “That’s not true. Everything has been settled, and I have communicated with all the leaders of the coalition parties; they have all given me their full support.”

Paetongtarn emphasized that after Bhumjaithai, the coalition’s second-largest party, withdrew from the ruling alliance, the coalition still holds an absolute majority of seats in parliament, and denied that she would concurrently serve as defense minister.

A Bhumjaithai Party spokesperson said Tuesday that the party would seek a no-confidence vote in parliament against Paetongtarn and her cabinet, adding that it was inviting other opposition parties to support the motion. “Once parliament convenes, we will first propose a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.”

Pheu Thai Party Secretary-General Srettha responded that the government has the support of more than half of the members of parliament and is therefore not concerned.
