(Kuching, 11th) Sarawak’s government-aided Chinese primary schools are expected to receive another round of upgrades next year, with the state government allocating funds to upgrade traditional classrooms into smart classrooms while also enhancing students’ interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
In the second phase of the upgrading plan, the Sarawak Chinese Primary School Advisory Committee is expected to utilize part of the funding to procure technology and science equipment, including robotics kits, 3D printers, and drones, in order to promote STEM subject learning among primary school students.

Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Deputy Premier in charge of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, stated that the committee would prioritize upgrading Chinese primary school classrooms into smart classrooms, followed by the procurement of STEM equipment and the enhancement of campus security facilities.
He said: “We must continue to drive a forward-looking STEM vision. By cultivating interest from primary school, students will have a better foundation when they advance to secondary school.
“STEM learning should not only take place at the secondary level. This approach will help nurture future engineering and technological talents, becoming an important force in nation-building for Sarawak.”
He made these remarks yesterday at an event at SJK Chung Hua No.3 in Sibu, where the Sarawak government handed over smart classroom equipment and funding for electronic mathematics and science reference materials.

Dr. Sim Kui Hian added that the plan also includes the installation of CCTV systems to enhance campus safety.
He said: “The second phase will equip more Chinese primary schools with smart classrooms, with the same allocation of RM5 million.
“As smart classrooms become more common next year, we will also use additional funds to purchase robotics kits, 3D printers, drones, and CCTV.”
