As conflict breaks out again along the Thai-Cambodian border, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar urges both countries to maintain restraint and keep communication channels open, as well as make full use of existing mechanisms to contain the situation.
He expressed concern over the matter in a Facebook post and extended condolences to the families of those killed and injured.
He emphasized that Thailand and Cambodia are close friends of Malaysia and important ASEAN members. Malaysia is willing to support all measures that help restore calm and prevent further conflict.
"These recurring conflicts could undermine the efforts made to stabilize the relationship between the two countries."
Anwar pointed out that the region cannot afford the consequences of letting a prolonged dispute escalate into a cycle of confrontation.
"The urgent priority is to stop the conflict, protect civilians, and return to diplomacy guided by international law and the spirit of good neighborliness, which is the cornerstone of ASEAN."
According to recent reports from international media, following renewed clashes with Cambodia, Thailand launched airstrikes along the disputed border, with both sides accusing each other of violating a previously agreed ceasefire.
In Ubon Province in eastern Thailand, at least one Thai soldier was killed and several others were injured in exchanges of fire with Cambodian troops.
