On the 10th in Strasbourg, France, the European Parliament's third largest group, 'Patriots for Europe,' announced that they would put forward a motion of no confidence against the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen.
It is reported that the motion has already received signatures from 85 Members of the European Parliament, exceeding the minimum threshold of 72 signatures required to initiate the relevant procedure.
The 'Patriots for Europe' group accused the current European Commission of comprehensive failures in trade, transparency, and accountability.
On the same day during a plenary session of the European Parliament, the group's first vice-president, Guy, stated that the Commission had failed to address Europe's most pressing challenges, with dereliction in areas such as peace, trade, and migration. 'Now is the time for von der Leyen to step down,' he said.
The core of this motion is strong dissatisfaction with the EU's trade policy. 'Patriots for Europe' believe that the European Commission has pushed forward multiple controversial trade agreements without authorization from national parliaments, severely undermining Europe's economic strength and strategic autonomy.
The group stated that the new trade agreement reached between the EU and the United States in July this year lacks legitimate authorization, with the agreement filled with asymmetric concessions and potential risks.
The group's chairman, Baldera, said: 'This is not a trade agreement, but a political act of surrender.'
According to the regulations, once the motion is confirmed as valid by the European Parliament, it will be put on the agenda for debate and vote at the plenary session as early as October. In July, the European Parliament had previously initiated a motion of no confidence against the von der Leyen-led European Commission, but it was not passed.
