Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation: Maintain Security Vigilance

(Bangkok, 10th – Comprehensive Report) Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin delivered a statement at the Government House on January 9th regarding the situation at the Thailand-Cambodia border, saying that current reports indicate that everything is in good order and under effective control, but emphasized that Thailand must not be complacent, and full border preparedness is still required.

Anutin pointed out that the Cambodian military has issued a letter explaining the previous 'Chong Bok incident,' clarifying that it was not done intentionally by the Cambodian side. When asked by reporters whether Cambodia had taken responsibility for the injuries to Thai soldiers, he said that the regional commanders carrying out missions locally from both countries had clarified the matter to each other. The incident is now concluded, and this understanding is in line with the terms of the joint statement.

When discussing whether the border situation has eased, Anutin stated that the government's primary goal is to ensure the public can return home safely and live with peace of mind. He emphasized that during the New Year period, every effort was made to maintain normalcy, and Thailand had not lost any territory, as the flag of victory was planted on Thai soil. However, he reminded everyone that there is still a need to remain highly vigilant and not to relax border security monitoring.
