At Least 12 Injured in New York Subway Train Fire

An engineering train caught fire near the Astor Place subway station in Manhattan, New York, in the early hours of the 4th local time, with thick smoke spreading into the station and resulting in at least 12 people being injured.

New York City Fire Department Assistant Chief Currao said at a press conference that at least seven Metropolitan Transportation Authority employees were treated for smoke inhalation, and another five firefighters were injured.

He stated that when the engineering train caught fire, another northbound train happened to arrive at the station. With the help of firefighters, passengers were safely evacuated and no passengers were injured.

The fire has now been extinguished, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Due to the incident, some New York City subway lines experienced temporary suspensions or delays.
