The official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea, Rodong Sinmun, published an editorial on Monday welcoming Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit and emphasizing the development of relations between North Korea and China.
The editorial stated that the people of North Korea warmly welcome Xi Jinping, who once again visits the DPRK carrying the deep friendship of the Chinese people. The editorial pointed out that July 11 marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the 'DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.' In this profoundly significant year, it is the common desire of the peoples of both countries to further develop the traditional DPRK-China friendship in a more dynamic manner across multiple fields, in accordance with the requirements of the new era.
The editorial emphasized that, amid the complex and ever-changing international political landscape, the peoples of North Korea and China urgently need to strengthen unity and cooperation, continuously develop bilateral relations, and strive to advance the socialist cause. The people of North Korea sincerely hope that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with Xi Jinping at its core, the Chinese people will achieve even greater results in the journey toward building a modern socialist powerhouse, and firmly safeguard the nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development interests. In the future, we will continue to join hands with the Chinese people in advancing the socialist cause and safeguarding regional and global peace and security.
At the invitation of Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, Xi Jinping will begin a two-day state visit to North Korea today. This is Xi Jinping's first visit to North Korea in seven years.
