Two Dead, 49 Injured in Milan Tram Derailment

On the afternoon of the 27th, a street tram derailment occurred in Milan, northern Italy. As of now, the accident has claimed two lives, and the number of reported injuries has risen to 49.

According to foreign media reports, the first fatality was a pedestrian struck by the tram, and the second was a passenger who died despite medical treatment. Among the injured, two are in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations show that the tram was traveling at high speed at the time of the accident; the driver said afterwards, "I was feeling very unwell at the time." The driver has since been taken to hospital for examination.

The vehicle involved was a Milan Line 9 tram, which went out of control and derailed near the Porta Venezia area, crashing into a building. The tram consists of three carriages and can accommodate 66 passengers.
