ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 16 -- The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has directed the state government to initiate discussions with Harvard University to explore new approaches for offering professional courses within the state.

He said this initiative represents a strategic investment in Johor's future, aiming to produce exceptional Johor Civil Service (JCS) officers.

“I envision Johor having administrative officers who excel not only in technical and administrative aspects but also possess critical thinking, sound decision-making abilities, and resilience in facing future challenges,” he said during the opening of the First Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly at the Sultan Ismail Building here today.

Tunku Ismail highlighted the importance of the state being administered by JCS officers with high standards, quality, and professional skills in line with Johor's rapid development.

“As the backbone of government administration in policy-making, they should also assist in implementing various public initiatives and serve as a bridge between the state government and the people of Johor.

“Therefore, JCS officers need to be equipped with global knowledge and leadership skills that align with current needs,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tunku Ismail expressed hope that the federal government would also participate in Johor's initiatives to develop high-quality human capital, such as the Bangsa Johor Pilot Schools (SRBJ) initiative.

“We cannot be content with a static and outdated education system. I hope the federal government will join Johor in developing high-quality human capital,” he said.

He further expressed hope that SRBJ would become a model for a more inclusive and progressive state education approach.
