Published at Jan 17, 2026 10:59 am
Ukrainian President Zelensky said on the evening of the 16th that Ukraine's air defense missile stockpile is insufficient and that aid from allies is inadequate.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Zelensky stated in a video address that Ukraine is in urgent need of air defense systems and interceptor missiles, and has honestly informed its allies, but their supply has fallen short. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is working to urge allies to accelerate the pace of supply. He also reminded Ukrainian citizens to take air raid warnings seriously.

On the same day, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Shmyhal posted on social media that, due to ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the country has entered an energy emergency. The government is taking urgent measures to stabilize power and heating across the nation, especially in the capital Kyiv.

Recently, Russian forces have continued to attack energy facilities in Kyiv oblast and Kyiv city. Since the 9th, Kyiv has experienced citywide power, water, and heating outages, with the left bank area facing especially severe energy conditions. On the 16th, the city government announced on social media that, starting immediately, Kyiv will implement controls on outdoor lighting electricity usage, including suspending building and decorative lighting, adjusting the brightness of street lamps depending on technical conditions, and limiting outdoor advertising lighting, among other measures.
