On Thursday local time (September 25), Chinese Premier Li Qiang held a discussion with American friendship groups in New York, emphasizing that China-US relations are the most important bilateral relationship in the world, and that the two countries can and should become partners and friends.
According to official media Xinhua News Agency, representatives from the US-China Business Council, the National Committee on US-China Relations, the US Chamber of Commerce, the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as scholars and business leaders attended the discussion.
While attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Li Qiang pointed out that looking back at history, friendly exchanges between China and the US have been the mainstream and general trend. Looking to the future, China and the US need to find the right way to get along in the new era. He also quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying that the vast Pacific Ocean is big enough to accommodate China, the US, and other countries.
Li Qiang continued, stating that as the world’s two major powers, China and the US should respect each other, coexist peacefully, and pursue win-win cooperation, realizing common prosperity through mutual success. He emphasized that economic and trade relations are an important part of bilateral relations. Given the significant differences in market structures and strong industrial complementarity between China and the US, and the important positions they hold in international industrial chains, both sides can benefit globally from strengthening economic and trade cooperation.
Regarding China’s economic prospects, Li Qiang noted that China is confident and capable of maintaining stable and healthy economic development, creating more opportunities for companies from all countries, including American enterprises. Regardless of how the external environment changes, China will do its utmost to provide more certainty for the development of foreign-invested enterprises.
He pledged that China will always maintain a constructive and responsible attitude, and work with the US on the basis of equality, respect, and reciprocity, to jointly promote steady and positive growth in China-US economic and trade relations. China will also remain focused on development and promote steady domestic economic growth.
Li Qiang pointed out that China's economy has a unique mechanism for stable operation, with market potential being rapidly released, innovation power continuing to surge, and economic vitality constantly increasing, which means huge and predictable development opportunities for businesses. China will also always keep its promises, unwaveringly expand its opening up, continually relax market access, increase imports, actively respond to the concerns of foreign-invested enterprises, and help solve practical difficulties, enabling companies from all countries to operate and develop in China with peace of mind.
Li Qiang stressed that the foundation of China-US relations lies with the people, and its healthy development requires joint efforts from the people of both countries. He expressed hope that people from all walks of life in the US would take more positive actions to enhance mutual understanding, expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and make greater contributions to promoting development and friendship between the two countries.
