(Kuching, 7th) Under the 2025 MADANI Village Adoption Program initiated by the Ministry of Works (MOW), the Kiong Longhouse in Kapit has undergone comprehensive improvements, successfully providing the local longhouse community with a more comfortable living environment and better facilities.
The Minister of Works and Member of Parliament for Kapit, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, officially handed over the completed project to residents during a lively handover ceremony yesterday (December 6th).
The upgrade project included:
· Roof repairs
· Enhanced electrical system safety
· Covered parking spaces
· Addition of new furniture
· Construction of a new public restroom for visitors
· Installation of a community public address (PA) system
Nanta pointed out that this project is not only a developmental achievement but also a collective accomplishment for the entire longhouse family.
He stated in a Facebook post: “The completion of the MADANI Village Adoption Program directly benefits the residents of Rumah Kiong, and further strengthens family bonds and cultural heritage here.”
He added that these improvement works reflect the MADANI government’s and Sarawak government’s commitment to narrowing the urban-rural gap in basic facilities through a ‘Whole of Government’ and ‘Whole of Nation’ approach.
