(Kuching, 18th) — A community care event aimed at honoring the resilience of single mothers became the focus of attention on Tuesday at the Mita Cake Shop (Cultural Village).
This event was officiated by Sarawak Minister of Women, Children, and Community Welfare, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, held in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
During the event, single mothers from the Sarawak Single Mothers Association were honored, and 50 thoughtfully prepared gift packs were distributed to attendees to help alleviate their festive burdens.
In addition, 100 charity packages were made available for public purchase at the event, with proceeds allocated to support initiatives and programs relating to single mothers.
The event also showcased broader community collaboration, including a partnership with young autistic artist Kelvin Li, whose artwork was printed on specially designed cosmetic pouches and tote bags.
With the support of the Kuching Association for Talented Special Needs (KATSN), this initiative aims to raise awareness about nurturing the talents of special needs children and support families raising children with autism.
Mita Cake Shop also introduced a brand-new registered mascot character, “Mita the Cat Baker”, symbolizing the brand’s core values of creativity, warmth, and community spirit.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer, Diana Law Che Kiat, said in her speech that this event is not just about product promotion, but more importantly, a recognition of the strength and contributions of single mothers.
She pointed out that many single mothers serve both as the breadwinner and caregiver for their families, and their resilience deserves continued support and recognition from society.
She added that the event also exemplifies the company’s ethos of giving back, with a particular focus on vital community groups.
“Through this event, we hope that families can celebrate Hari Raya in warmth and joy, while also feeling the community’s care and support,” she said.
