YouWuYi Dance Academy Celebrates 35th Anniversary: Cultivating Arts Education Deeply in the Community

(Miri, 14th) Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that with the progress of the times, Miri has gradually formed a unique and diverse character in cultural, artistic, educational, and community development, showcasing the vitality and creativity of society.
He said that the development of culture and the arts is as important as economic development, serving as a source of social cohesion, a platform for young people to foster self-confidence and dreams, and an important driving force for Sarawak towards harmony and progress. Therefore, the government will continue to support and encourage similar activities, promoting more young people to step onto the stage, letting arts education take root deeply in the community, and turning cultural soft power into an advantage for Sarawak’s long-term development.
He made these remarks last night while attending the 35th Anniversary Gala of YouWuYi Dance Academy themed "The Flourishing Path of Art, Splendid Chapters Unwritten," held at the third floor of the Civic Centre.

Lee Kim Shin pointed out that YouWuYi Dance Academy started 35 years ago as a cultural group under the Sarawak United People’s Party. With passion and perseverance for arts education, it has developed step by step to become a prestigious arts institution. This path has not been easy, but thanks to the leadership’s vision, the hard work of the teaching and staff teams, and the long-term support of the parents, these achievements have been realized.
He said YouWuYi has trained countless outstanding dance talents who have not only shone on the domestic stage, but have also represented the country internationally, bringing pride to Miri and Sarawak. This is not only the pride of the academy but also a symbol of the flourishing development of arts and culture in Miri.
He added that the 35-year journey of YouWuYi is a testimony to perseverance and innovation, and serves as an important model in cultural education and talent cultivation. He extended his warm congratulations to all faculty, staff, and alumni, and thanked them for their contribution to Miri’s cultural and artistic development.
Lee Kim Shin also expressed his hope that YouWuYi will continue to build bridges through art in the future, nurturing more outstanding dancers and artists to write even more brilliant chapters for Sarawak, Malaysia, and the international dance scene.
