Russian Drone Enters Romanian Airspace, Fighter Jets Scrambled in Response

(Bucharest, 14th) The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that during Russia's attack on Ukrainian infrastructure on the 13th, a drone entered Romanian airspace, prompting the country’s fighter jets to scramble in response.
About 20 Russian drones intruded into Polish airspace on the 9th of this month, prompting NATO on the 12th to announce the launch of measures to reinforce defense of its eastern flank.
Romania is a member of the European Union and NATO, sharing a land border of approximately 650 kilometers with Ukraine. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, remnants of Russian drones have been discovered multiple times within Romania.
Romania urgently dispatched two F-16 fighter jets at the time, and issued a shelter alert for a border village in the southeastern region near the boundary.
The Romanian fighter jets tracked the drone until it reached about 20 kilometers southwest of the village and re-entered Ukrainian airspace, disappearing from Romanian radar.
The Ministry of Defense said the drone did not fly over any populated areas and did not pose any immediate danger to civilians.
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that, according to data, the drone penetrated about 10 kilometers into Romanian airspace, flying for approximately 50 minutes, which is apparently a sign of Russia expanding the war effort and necessitates collective defense.
