The U.S. Department of the Treasury and Department of State announced a new round of sanctions against Iran and Cuba on their official websites on the 7th.
The Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a statement adding several individuals and entities from Iraq and Cuba to the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) List, further increasing pressure on Iran and Cuba through sanctions.
The Treasury Department pointed out that a deputy minister from Iraq's Oil Ministry assisted Iran in selling oil by taking advantage of his position and has therefore been sanctioned.
The Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on three senior leaders of Iraqi armed groups closely associated with Iran.
According to the statement, all assets of the sanctioned entities within the U.S. are frozen, and U.S. entities or individuals are prohibited from conducting transactions with them.
The State Department also issued a statement on the same day, adding Cuba's Business Management Group, Moa Nickel Plant, and related company executives to the sanctions list. On the 1st, President Trump signed an executive order, increasing sanctions against Cuba on the grounds of threats to U.S. national security and foreign policy.
