On the 22nd, Canadian Prime Minister Carney publicly refuted remarks made by U.S. President Trump, emphasizing that Canada's existence does not 'rely on the United States' and that Canadians are 'masters of their own country.'
Previously, at the World Economic Forum annual meeting held in Davos, Switzerland, Trump criticized Canada for being ungrateful and stated that 'Canada only exists thanks to the United States,' insisting that Carney remember this in his future addresses.
In a speech delivered in Quebec City, Canada, Carney acknowledged that the two countries have established an outstanding partnership in economic, security, and cultural exchanges. But he stressed: 'Canada does not survive by relying on the United States. Canada prospers because we are Canadians.'
Carney said: 'We are the masters of our own country. This is our country, this is our future, and the choice is in our hands.'
