Landslide on New Zealand's North Island Leaves Several Missing

A large-scale landslide occurred on the 22nd at a holiday park at the foot of Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island, resulting in several people missing, including children.

According to local media reports, the landslide occurred at around 9:30 am local time, affecting a seaside holiday park at the foot of Mount Maunganui. The disaster impacted RVs, cars, tents, hot spring pools, and shower areas, and all tourists on-site have been evacuated.

New Zealand's Minister for Emergency Management, Mitchell, said that search and rescue operations are ongoing.

In addition, Parker, the head of the New Zealand Fire and Emergency Department, noted that rescuers heard calls for help coming from the buried area upon arrival at the scene, but subsequently lost contact. No survivors have been found yet.

Recently, due to heavy rainfall and flooding, many areas in the North Island have been seriously affected, with thousands of households experiencing power outages.
