Involved in Sexual Transaction with 12-Year-Old Girl, Singaporean Man Charged

A 37-year-old man in Singapore is accused of paying 50 Singapore dollars (approximately 165 ringgit) to a girl under 12 for sexual services, inappropriately touching her over her clothes, while another 25-year-old man is suspected of sexually assaulting a minor. Both have been charged in court.

According to reports from the Shin Min Daily News, the Singapore Police Force issued a statement on the 22nd stating that six men aged between 22 to 41 were arrested by the Special Investigation Section of the Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly being involved in separate child sexual exploitation cases.

They were charged in court on the morning of the 23rd, with two of them accused of meeting underage girls online and engaging in sexual transactions offline.

Charges indicate that one of the defendants, Guo Chuanyuan (37), was alleged to have engaged in communication for the purpose of sexual transactions with a girl under the age of 12 between November 21 and 22 of last year.

Guo Chuanyuan is also accused of engaging in a sexual transaction with the victim at a residential unit in Choa Chu Kang at about 6:30 PM on the 21st, kissing and touching her private parts.

He was arrested on March 25 this year and faces a charge of engaging in a sexual transaction with a girl under 18, and another charge of having contact with a girl under 18 on the premise of obtaining sexual services.

Another defendant, Lin Jiaen (25), is alleged to have, on November 23, 2023, in a residential unit in Jurong West, made a victim under 16 perform oral sex on him and sexually assaulted her.

He is also accused of re-offending on December 8 and 19 and using sex toys on the victim. He was arrested and brought to justice on July 5 last year.

Lin Jiaen faces a total of eight charges of sexually assaulting a girl under 16.

Maximum Sentence of Seven Years in Prison

Defendant Guo Chuanyuan intends to plead guilty, with the case adjourned to July 4, while Lin Jiaen's case has been adjourned to June 20.

According to Section 376B of the Penal Code, anyone engaging in a sexual transaction with a person under 18, if found guilty, can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison, fined, or both.

Under Section 376A of the Penal Code, being charged with sexually assaulting a person aged between 14 and 16, if convicted, can result in imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine, or caning. (Names translated phonetically)
