Ken Chu’s Solo Concert Sells Poorly: Tickets Heavily Discounted and Given Away for Free

Ken Chu was “excluded” from the F4 tour lineup, and recently (on the 15th) held a solo concert at the Yangjiang Sports Center in Guangdong. During the concert, he choked up and cried, later stating to the public that it was because “a family friend passed away earlier today.” Today (the 27th), however, news has surfaced that the real reason was disappointing ticket sales, which has once again drawn attention.

According to Mirror Weekly, Ken Chu’s solo tour suffered from poor ticket sales and has already announced the cancellation of the Guangzhou stop. Ticket prices for his recent Guangdong concert ranged from 680 RMB (about 397 MYR) to 280 RMB (about 163 MYR), but there were discounts of up to 62% at the venue, and even "last minute" tickets for 50 RMB (about 29 MYR) were available. Still, the venue, which could accommodate nearly 4,000 people, remained noticeably empty.

Online leaks also revealed that "the singer said he wouldn’t perform unless the attendance reached at least 80%, and in the end, tickets in the back rows went for 25 RMB (about 15 MYR) or were even given away for free." Additionally, the concert started half an hour later than scheduled. When Ken Chu performed "About In Winter," he broke down and wiped away tears, explaining afterward that it was because “a family friend passed away today.” Nevertheless, the public still speculated that the poor ticket sales impacted his mood during the concert.
