American film magazine Variety recently selected the "100 Greatest Comedies in Film History," with the 1988 box office hit comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! taking the top spot. In second place is the classic comedy Some Like It Hot starring the glamorous icon Marilyn Monroe. The legendary silent film comedy master Charlie Chaplin’s 1940 satire The Great Dictator, which lampoons Adolf Hitler, also made the list at number four.
The "Top 100 Comedies" ranking also features many modern works, including the 2006 office comedy The Devil Wears Prada starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, which ranked 81st.
The 2022 madcap comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, starring Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh, also made the list at number 87. In the film, Yeoh brilliantly portrays a highly skilled "auntie" character, earning her the Academy Award for Best Actress and marking a shining milestone for Asian actors!
