On Thursday (11th), a death case occurred in Wenshan District, Taipei City. Residents of a community building recently noticed that the water quality had developed a strange odor and notified a water tower maintenance company to conduct an inspection. Unexpectedly, a decomposed male corpse was found floating inside the water tower.
According to a TVBS report, some residents discovered an odd smell in the community’s water supply and notified a water tower company to check it. When the company staff arrived yesterday to inspect, they were shocked to find a male corpse floating in the water tower on the 7th floor. The community manager was so startled by the sight that they immediately called the police. Upon arrival, the police conducted a preliminary examination and found that the man showed no signs of life and had no external injuries. After checking each floor, they confirmed that the man was not a resident of the building.
Further police investigation revealed that the ladder inside the water tower had broken. It is suspected that the deceased may have fallen and drowned while climbing the ladder, which broke during the attempt. The man was also found wearing work rain boots. However, due to the body being soaked in water for a long time and being hard to identify, the man’s identity still cannot be confirmed as of today. The initial fingerprint check has failed, so the police will conduct a second fingerprint comparison and will take body fluid samples from the deceased for DNA identification. The exact cause of death is yet to be determined, pending further forensic examination.
Additionally, the water tower company described the incident, stating that upon arrival, they noticed the water was black and emitting an unusual odor. Only after gradually draining the water did they discover a corpse inside, admitting, “This is the first time I’ve encountered something like this in 30 years of work.”
The representative also stated that staff are currently carrying out disinfection and checks, and some coins were found inside the water tower. Meanwhile, the water supply to all residents has been stopped.
